Safe Schools
When news break that an emergency is taking place at school, every parent's first reaction is to rush to the campus to pick up his or her child. In fact, large numbers of parents arriving at school can increase the risk of danger to students. Here are some tips for parents when an emergency occurs on or near a Deer Valley campus.
- Tune your radio to KTAR-FM 92.3 for the latest information and updates. Call the School Status Line at
623-376-4636 for the latest information on operating conditions at Deer Valley schools. - Know to what location your campus will evacuate. Be aware that we will generally not move students from one campus to another. In the case of a schoolwide evacuation, the alternate site identified for Sunrise is:
Church of Joy
21000 N. 75th Avenue
Glendale, AZ
All Deer Valley schools have developed comprehensive plans which have been reviewed by local police and fire officials, as well as the district's insurance carrier.
In addition, Sunrise has completed tabletop crisis drills with emergency experts. Fire drills are held monthly and lockdown drills are held quarterly. If you happen to be on campus during one of our drills, it is the expectation that you will participate with us as instructed during that time.
To help parents, community members and students report threats, rumors, or information on criminal activity, Deer Valley establishes a Safe Schools hotline (623-376-3262). This number is always available as a discrete way to convey important information to educators.
For our students' safety, we ask that you leave your pets at home when you come on campus to pick up your child. Pets pose a health hazard or can be dangerous even when on a leash.
